The Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinatorto join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to Nam Phuong Nguyen, UW ADRC Biomarker Operations Manager, the Research Coordinator is responsible for performing basic research duties to support ongoing projects in the Integrated Brain Imaging Center (IBIC) related to aging and neurodegenerative disease.  This includes utilizing neuroimaging, neuropsychology, and/or neuroscience techniques and procedures to collect and evaluate data for the lab.

This position is located primarily at the Integrated Brain Imaging Center at UW Montlake Campus (some travel between sites will be necessary by UW Health Services or other shuttles), and operates primarily Monday-Friday schedule at 8AM-5PM, but it is not always fixed and workload does vary. The incumbent¹s first responsibility is to complete tasks rather than keep to a fixed schedule.  Flexibility in schedule and intensity of work is necessary. This position is eligible for occasional telework.

Key Responsibilities

Research Study Development & Management-60%

  • Participate in developing research designs, data collection methods, and strategies for data management.
  • Coordinate multiple data collection efforts which may include collaborating agencies or institutions.
  • Duties may also include recruiting or overseeing the recruitment and interviewing of human subjects, preparing human subject applications, writing and editing technical reports and manuscripts for publication or presentation, developing and monitoring project budgets, preparing progress reports/proposals, and acting as a liaison between the project team and research project partners and funding agencies. May supervise research and support staff.
  • Qualify candidates by completing phone interviews and collect brief neuropsychological data/MRI scans, eye scans, and/or EEG from human subjects.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and administer scanning and testing of human subjects – this includes training subjects on cognitive tasks.

Analysis & Reporting- 30%

  • Apply scientific knowledge gained through formal education at the Bachelor's level or equivalent/related experience to coordinate a significant research project or multiple smaller research projects.
  • Perform preprocessing of functional and structural MRI and DTI data; prepare and analyze data for presentation; work at the command-line in Linux using IBIC computer software for neuroimaging processing and analysis (FSL, AFNI, in-house software tools).
  • Prepare documentation of IBIC data analysis workflow and other experimental practices.
  • Enter MRI, diagnostic, and neuropsychological data into IBIC databases.
  • Enter MRI data into central project databases, e.g. at collaborating institutions

Self/Team Development 10%

  • Attend and participate in IBIC meetings, and meetings of ADRC Imaging Core and Biomarker Core.
  • Perform literature searches and read literature or conduct literature surveys in neuroscience projects as necessary.
  • May train and guide other scientists and technicians requiring assistance with analysis or analysis tools.

·       Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Biology, Psychology, or Neuroscience

·       One year of relevant experience in research coordination

·       Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of fundamental neuroimaging concepts
  • Familiarity with a clinical research
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with diverse communities
  • Time management, multi-tasking, flexibility, presentation and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

•                     Experience with managing multiple project timelines and flexible schedules

•                     Experience or interest in working with clinical populations, especially seniors or those with degenerative brain disease

•                     Experience with MRI/PET imaging or Python, MATLAB, and/or R programming language preferred

  • The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to write, type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds
  • The employee will frequently be using a computer and monitor screens

The UW Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) is one of 42 Alzheimer's research resource centers funded by the National Institute on Aging. ADRCs are major sources of discovery into the nature of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and into the development of more effective approaches to prevention, diagnosis, care, and therapy.
