About the team

The Landfill Engineering Projects team plays a critical role in protecting the environment and supporting the sustainable management of the City's landfill assets. Working within Waste and Resource Recovery, the team delivers technical projects, environmental risk mitigation initiatives and long-term management strategies that ensure compliance, improve operational performance and support the future needs of our growing city. You'll collaborate with specialist consultants, operational teams and key stakeholders to deliver projects that make a lasting impact on the Gold Coast community.

About the role

As Project Manager, you'll lead the delivery of complex technical waste and landfill projects across active and closed landfill sites. Applying your environmental expertise and project management capability, you'll identify and manage environmental risks, coordinate specialist investigations, provide strategic technical advice and oversee project delivery from planning through to completion. You'll also contribute to governance frameworks, policy development and continuous improvement initiatives that support the effective long-term management of landfill infrastructure and environmental obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing technical landfill and environmental projects from initiation to completion.
• Developing project scopes, coordinating consultants and engaging stakeholders.
• Leading compliance, auditing and risk management activities.
• Providing expert technical advice and evidence-based recommendations.
• Monitoring project budgets, expenditure and delivery outcomes.
• Developing policies and procedures to support landfill governance and management.
• Mentoring team members and contributing to capability development within the team

We’re looking for people who have:

We're seeking a technically skilled and outcomes-focused project professional who combines strong environmental knowledge with proven project management experience. You will be comfortable working with complex technical information, managing competing priorities and building effective relationships across a diverse stakeholder group.

To be successful, you'll bring:

• A Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
• Experience in contaminated land and landfill environmental management.
• Demonstrated experience managing technical, environmental or infrastructure-related projects.
• Strong understanding of environmental compliance, risk management and governance requirements.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into practical business outcomes.
• Experience managing consultants, project budgets and contract delivery.
• A Class C Driver Licence and Construction White Card.
• Certificate IV in Project Management (or equivalent experience) will be highly regarded
