Job Description
As a Senior Level Artist at Ubisoft Montréal, you will contribute to the creation of immersive environments that support the gameplay, missions, and environmental storytelling of an open-world project.
You will work closely with the level design and mission design teams to create coherent, engaging, and memorable play spaces. This role is focused on the assembly, organization, and integration of existing assets into the game engine to support the player experience and design intentions.
You will actively participate in creative discussions and propose ideas to enrich mission spaces and strengthen the game experience. This position is not primarily about creating high-resolution 3D assets or performing full modeling of visual elements.
What you will do
- Collaborate closely with the level design and mission design teams to create play spaces that support gameplay and mission progression
- Design and organize environments that foster environmental storytelling and the player experience
- Assemble and integrate existing assets into the game engine to create coherent and immersive locations
- Take ownership of specific areas or map sections, ensuring their visual quality and functionality
- Adjust composition, lighting, and visual details to enhance the atmosphere and readability of spaces
- Position interactive and decorative elements to support player navigation and mission objectives
- Actively contribute to creative exchanges with multidisciplinary teams
- Balance artistic intentions with technical constraints and gameplay needs
- Test environments and propose improvements to optimize the player experience
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure environmental consistency across the game world
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- Solid experience on AAA productions or open-world projects, including at least two shipped AAA games
- Proficiency in 3D software such as Blender, 3ds Max, or Maya, as well as level design or world-building tools
- Understanding of the principles of level design, gameplay, and environmental storytelling
- Understanding of how environments support missions, progression, and the player experience
- Proficiency with game engines and production pipelines related to environment integration
- Experience with game engines such as Snowdrop is preferred, with openness to comparable experience on Unreal Engine or similar world-building and environment integration tools
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to creative discussions
- Creativity, visual judgment, initiative, and a strong interest in video games
