The District is recruiting for an Office Assistant II to fill the current vacancy assigned to the Administrative Services department located in Bakersfield, California. The eligible list established as a result of this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies. Office Assistants independently perform a variety of office support duties. Typical duties include: receiving and screening telephone calls; assisting customers; document scanning; processing regular and bulk mail; copying and gathering materials; typing correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents utilizing Microsoft Word; proofreading and checking typed and other materials for accuracy and completeness including grammar, punctuation, and spelling; maintaining and updating records; entering, editing, and retrieving data; basic keyboarding; preparing periodic and special reports; processing forms; and developing and maintaining office filing systems.

Qualifications/Requirements

This classification requires graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, two (2) years of general clerical experience and the skill to accurately type 40 net words per minute.

Qualified applicants must possess knowledge of: office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment; proper telephone etiquette; business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials; basic business data processing principles; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; business arithmetic; basic record keeping principles and practices; AND skill in: performing detailed office support work accurately; using Microsoft Word or personal computing equipment; composing routine correspondence from brief instructions; using initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines; setting work priorities and coordinating several activities; organizing and maintaining accurate files and records; making accurate arithmetic calculations; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; and understanding and carrying out oral and written directions.

Other Requirements

When applicable, a valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire. Must be able to attend work on a daily basis as scheduled.
