PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £50,000 plus £5441 London Weighting, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Please note: While BBC Studios offers 26 days of annual leave, Studioworks provides 25 days. Other benefits may also vary slightly between the two entities.

BBC Studioworks is a commercial subsidiary of BBC Studios providing studios and post production services to all the major TV broadcasters and production companies including the BBC, ITV, Sky, Channel 4, Channel 5, Amazon &  Netflix. Located across sites in Elstree and Television Centre in White City, our London facilities are home to some of the nation’s most watched and loved television shows. We offer world-class studio and post production spaces, equip them with the right technology and engage the most dedicated and talented people in the industry. By doing this, we bring shows to life.

We have 3 studios at BBC TV Centre one of which is 4K UHD capable. Elstree having 3 dedicated studios for our commercial work and an additional 9 shooting areas and 4 galleries to film the continuing Drama Eastenders. Studioworks also have a studio in Glasgow at Kelvin Hall and also at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a Studio Engineer, you will ensure the reliability, performance and readiness of broadcast systems supporting one of the UK's most iconic productions, EastEnders. Working across studios and technical areas, you will maintain, rig, troubleshoot, modify and operate a wide range of broadcast equipment, including cameras, routers, mixers, sound desks and communications systems. The role requires strong technical expertise, flexibility and the ability to deliver under operational and programme pressures.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Maintain, align, modify and troubleshoot broadcast equipment and systems, ensuring all technical facilities meet operational and production requirements.
• Partner with production teams and colleagues to plan technical solutions, provide expert advice, and deliver programme requirements effectively.
• Monitor and maintain technical standards across sound, vision and data signal paths, ensuring faults are resolved quickly with minimal disruption.
• Drive technical innovation by developing, testing and implementing new equipment, systems and workflows to improve operational capability.
• Rig, configure and operate broadcast equipment including recorders, servers, cameras, monitoring facilities and location-based technical systems.
• Lead or support equipment installations, refurbishments, acceptance testing and complex fault resolution, working with specialist departments, contractors and manufacturers as required.
• Support team development through training, coaching and supervision of junior staff and trainees, while maintaining health and safety compliance, documentation and operational reporting.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Relevant qualifications, training, or demonstrable experience in broadcast engineering within a television studio or live production environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of broadcast systems, including cameras, routers, vision and audio mixers, sound desks, communications systems, talkback infrastructure, computer systems, and networks.
• Experience working with a variety of broadcast technologies and software platforms, with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems and workflows.
• Ability to assess and maintain high technical standards, including the critical evaluation of television pictures, waveforms, audio quality, and signal integrity.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach and the ability to build effective relationships with production and operational teams.
• Proven problem-solving skills, using sound judgement to identify solutions, prioritise workloads effectively, and determine when to escalate or delegate tasks.
• A self-motivated and collaborative team player who thrives under pressure, demonstrates flexibility in a fast-paced production environment, and has sufficient colour vision and hearing to carry out the duties of the role.
