About the Position
Career Opportunity
The city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs department invites applications for Special Events Assistant. This is an hourly entry-level, part-time position. Scheduled hours for this position are limited to 19 hours or less per week (Shift will vary based on the needs of the programs and facility). Hourly employees are also limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18 month period.
The ideal candidate will possess a high level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills, paired with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal abilities. They should excel in verbal communication, enjoy collaborating with others, and bring creativity to their work. This individual will demonstrate high energy and stamina, with the ability to perform well under pressure and think critically in challenging situations. The ideal candidate is also highly skilled at multitasking efficiently, balancing competing demands without compromising quality. They should thrive in a dynamic environment and bring a proactive, solution-oriented approach to their work.
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time positions.
Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from higher-level classified, supervisory or management staff.
Selection Process
The selection process will include a review of all applications with only the most qualified participating in an interview. Final candidate selection will include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and complete background check. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.
NOTE: Eligible applicants will be contacted via phone or e-mail only if moving forward to the interview process. If you are not contacted, your application will remain active for a period of four (4) months.
Example of Duties
Essential Functions
- Assemble event goodie bags, school packs, gift and raffle baskets, backpacks, and other event materials
- Load trucks with supplies and equipment in preparation for upcoming events
- Set up event spaces, including arranging chairs, tables, and other necessary supplies, once unloaded from the truck
- Perform a variety of tasks as assigned, supporting the event team in all necessary capacities
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the warehouse parks and event venues
- Adhere to safety protocols to ensure a secure and complaint work environment
- Deliver exceptional customer service by providing relevant event information to attendees to enhance their experience and address any questions or concerns
- Check event equipment into the inventory system, ensuring proper documentation and inspecting for any damage or issues
- Assist with event breakdown by packing up materials and loading trucks for transport
- Unload and properly store material back at the warehouse following the event, ensuring everything is accounted for and stored in an organized manner
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 6 months of event experience
- 6 months of customer service experience
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical tasks, including standing for long periods, bending and lifting
- Spanish/English bilingual desirable, but not required
