DEPARTMENT: BBC World Service
LOCATION: London, UK - Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £30,000 - £40,000 plus London Weighting depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking.
Please note that this role operates on a rota basis and will include weekend shifts as part of a rotating schedule.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC News Mundo is part of the BBC World Service, an international multimedia broadcaster delivering a wide range of language and regional services, working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. We use multiple platforms to reach millions of people globally.
BBC News Mundo provides news, explainers, context and original stories to Spanish speaking audiences across Latin America and beyond, through direct digital platforms and social media. This includes our own site as well as channels on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and Whatsapp.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
We are looking for a Journalist passionate about digital video. He/she will work in close collaboration with BBC Mundo’s video Senior Journalist Team Manager and the team’s producers, correspondents, contributors and editors. If required, they will liaise with other BBC teams in News Online, World News and languages.
The successful candidate will create original and impactful content for BBC Mundo’s YouTube channel and other video platforms, to the standard required by the BBC.
He/she will be a creative and versatile journalist, with strong understanding of what makes a good digital video and how it is consumed on different platforms.
Sound editorial judgment, understanding of international and Latin American affairs, sharp video editing and/or script writing skills and the ability to respond to breaking news are essential.
The successful candidate will also enjoy working in a fast paced, changeable environment, bringing creative storytelling and treatment ideas with them to the role.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
• Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, report, produce write or translate scripts, edit and adapt videos or TV programme material.
• To write timely, accurate, engaging digital video scripts for social media.
• To film and edit video in a timely and creative way.
• To have a deep understanding of metric analytics to understand video audiences needs and create content relevant for them.
• To undertake interactive tasks with the audience
• To ensure that BBC Editorial principles and all relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.
• To be able to prioritise in order to deliver material in tight deadlines
• To travel off-base on short reporting trips and assignments.
• To work with or move to other teams and to have the ability to work across a range of skills and in a flexible manner, and to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the BBC’s overall standards and values.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
· A full command and up to date knowledge of Spanish as first (or equivalent) language with excellent written Spanish skills and an ability to use language to tell a story effectively
· Strong experience of digital video
. Experience with shooting and editing videos for Social Media.
· Evidence of recent original journalistic work of impact in the target area.
· Complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
· Experience of reporting, in the field, on international and/or Latin American current affairs issues.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
· Experience with live and recorded video presentation would be an advantage
· Wide and up to date familiarity with international news and/or the target area and an in-depth understanding of its history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience
· A thorough knowledge of the aims, objectives and standards of the BBC World Service
· An understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda and a wider interest in the strategy of the BBC as a whole
