Job Description:

Parsons is looking for a Roadway/Highway Lighting and Traffic Signal Engineer to join our Montreal office and be part of our Civil Infrastructure group. The successful candidate will contribute to a wide range of infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, transitways, municipal and regional arterial roads, local streets, multi-use paths, parking areas, and other transportation-related infrastructure.

This role requires solid experience in roadway lighting design and traffic signal design, with preference given to candidates who have worked on public lighting and/or traffic signal projects in the province of Quebec. Experience with MTMD, MTO, and other municipal transportation agencies is also considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical engineering team on roadway/highway lighting and traffic signal projects.
• Attend and actively participate in project meetings with internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Perform electrical engineering studies, site surveys, and detailed designs for electrical infrastructure and intelligent transportation systems for various agencies and projects in Canada, as well as for international projects.
• Coordinate projects and perform field activities such as site surveys, inspections, and data collection, as needed.
• Perform lighting calculations using AGI32 software or equivalent software.
• Perform load calculations, short circuit calculations, voltage drop calculations, and arc flash analyses.
• Prepare and/or review one-line diagrams, traffic signal plans, roadway lighting wiring diagrams, electrical plans, communication network diagrams, and construction details.
• Prepare, review, and modify technical specifications, construction specifications, system test plans, and test scripts.
• Support or lead testing activities, including data processing and analysis.
• Produce construction cost estimates for electrical and transportation infrastructure work.
• Prepare and review project tender documents and construction contract documentation.
• Manage certain aspects of contract administration during project execution.
• Review shop drawings and equipment data sheets.
• Perform site observations, construction site inspections, and prepare inspection reports.
• Ensure that designs and deliverables meet applicable industry standards, agency requirements, and regulatory codes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in roadway/highway lighting and traffic signal engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in roadway lighting design and traffic signal design.
• Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ). P.Eng. title in Ontario (an asset).
• Solid knowledge of current electrical engineering practices, design standards, and applicable regulations.
• Proficiency in AGI32 lighting design software.
• Proficiency in performing:
  • Voltage drop calculations
  • Short circuit calculations
  • Arc flash analyses
• Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with roadway lighting and/or traffic signal design standards in the province of Quebec.
• Experience with MTMD, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), and other municipal transportation agencies.
• Knowledge of transportation electrical systems, communication systems, and intelligent transportation systems infrastructure.
• Experience in project support during both design and construction phases.
