School of Communication Studies could be hiring up to three positions to teach the following courses during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Teach two sections of COMS 3200 – Communication and New Technology (3 credit hours)

Start date: Fall Semester 2026–2027

COMS 3200 explores the ways in which communication is facilitated by, in, and through new communication technologies. The course is a major elective for COMS majors, and it is also a requirement for the Social Media Certificate.

Teach one section of COMS 3400 – Introduction to Health Communication (3 credit hours) and one section of COMS 1030— Fundamentals of Public Speaking

Start date: Fall Semester 2026–2027

COMS 3400 is concerned with issues in the theory and practice of health communication. Topics include provider-patient communication; organizational communication in health care delivery systems; communication in community/consumer health education; information technologies in health communication; communication in support systems for the elderly, disabled, and terminally ill; and communication training for health care professionals. This course is required for students with a Health Communication emphasis as well as a major elective for other COMS majors.

COMS 1030 develops understanding of theories and skills related to successful communication in the presentational speaking context. Through the use of interpretive and rhetorical methods students understand meaning, context, culture, diversity, ethics, research, and language in the development and delivery of informative and persuasive speeches that are informed by and adapted to desired audiences. This course is a general education requirement for Ohio BRICKS.
