Job Description
The Office of Faculty Affairs supports the George Washington University’s continuing commitment to a culturally diverse faculty/librarian workforce and affirmatively promotes inclusive recruitment and employment practices. The office works with administrators, faculty, and librarians in advancing a campus climate that values, attracts and supports a diverse workforce.
The Faculty Affairs Specialist serves an integral role within the department as the primary resource in support of faculty/librarian recruitment activities, shepherding the recruitment process from position availability to the appointment offer, as well as being a primary support of contact for GW’s Elements System.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Supports recruiting efforts for all faculty and librarian positions within the University from posting to hire. Works with departments to develop competitive job positions. Reviews each position and job postings, verifies position qualifications and applicant screening questions, posts positions on GW job site, and with external advertising sources as requested, and monitors applicant pools. Serves as liaison between applicants and University hiring managers. Addresses specific inquiries, as appropriate, about posted positions. Evaluates and processes GW department/library hiring proposals for faculty/librarian positions. Verifies outreach activities to ensure compliance with recruitment plan. Verifies qualifications of finalists through critical review of all application materials, reviews and approves hiring proposals, and coordinates appointment letters with Faculty Personnel. Responsible for full lifecycle of recruitment activity within the University’s Applicant Tracking System, PeopleAdmin (PA7).
- Creates, maintains, and conducts training on University recruitment process. Develops, implements, and monitors inclusive recruitment and selection policies and procedures. Counsels administrators and search committees about University policies and procedures and meeting their obligation to advance a culturally and intellectually diverse workforce. Researches best practices in position announcements to promote diverse applicant pools and active recruitment strategies. Conducts workshops on various aspects of recruitment, outreach, evaluation and selection. Reviews and approves recruitment plans, position announcements and placement, recruitment process summaries and proposed appointment offers.
- Serves as the liaison between Faculty Affairs and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) on PA7 matters. Takes initiative to identify, meet and facilitate ongoing communication about system needs and client expectations. Provides formal and informal trainings for department users on the navigation of PA7.
- Assists applicants with PA system use. Troubleshoots department and applicant questions/problems (lost passwords, misdirected proposals, etc.).
- Works in partnership with Faculty Affairs leadership to coordinate the online strategy. Coordinates ongoing website maintenance related to the development and implementation of content for recruitment pages.
- Consults with members of GW faculty on transaction protocol, data and requests, in conjunction with the manager.
- Processes faculty relocation requests for new faculty.
- Acts as a primary point of contact for supporting GW’s Elements System
- Provides special project support for departmental, School, and University initiatives as requested.
Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties and projects does not preclude the supervisor from assigning additional responsibilities that are logically related to the position and important to the functioning of Faculty Affairs Operations.
