The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) at Arizona State University's Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering is seeking a highly motivated experienced human resources professional to join our team as Human Resources Principal. Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, this position will oversee the day-to-day operational functions of the HR team members, perform daily processing duties, and coordinate and monitor strategic initiatives established by leadership.

The successful candidate will be a highly skilled, collaborative HR lead that combines strong HR administrative and supervisory experience with a motivational, mentoring leadership style, maintaining effective working relationships. Essential Duties:

Staff Supervision and Team Leadership

  • Provides day-to-day direction to HR professionals and student workers
  • Directs the HR team using a collaborative approach that motivates individuals and fosters comradery and professional growth
  • Partner with HR Manager to spearhead change management and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assists the HR Manager to evaluate current workflows, pinpoint operational gaps, and implement scalable process improvements
  • Assess team workload and redistribute duties as needed, ensuring all department functions are cross-trained

Recruitment and Hiring

  • Coordinates and manages staff personnel searches including applicant evaluation and hiring
  • Assist with the hiring of faculty associates and instructional positions each semester
  • Manages the academic and non-academic hires, renewals, and terminations process
  • Oversight of undergraduate and graduate student hires and renewals
  • Monitors orientation of new employees

Payroll

  • Process payroll transactions and activities for new and existing employees including creating offer letters, position management, terminations, and entering tuition waivers and scholarships
  • Identifies overpayments/underpayments for appropriate action; processes and approves payroll corrections
  • Assists in managing payroll processes, procedures, internal controls, and payroll quality for SSEBE
  • Resolves and investigates payroll discrepancies using reporting tools (Data Warehouse, Analytics, Workday) and works as a liaison between SSEBE, FSE, ASU Office of Human Resources and Financial Services to reach a solution and process needed transactions when applicable

Other

  • Coordinates and processes visa applications for employees and non-employees
  • Assists in overseeing, managing department participation in internal and external audit requests. Prepares audit documents
  • Recommends or participates in the development of new procedures or review existing procedures related to payroll operation, then assist in implementing development of documentation
  • Assists with the Notice of Appointment (NOA) process
  • Monitor and approve the online digital storage, Docuware, submissions

Desired Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in high work volume environment managing multiple tasks and priorities; payroll; record keeping; ensuring adherence with policies, practices, and regulations.
  • Experience providing HR support in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic data processing as it applies to human resources/fiscal automated applications.
  • Skill in coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships both within and across organizational areas (faculty, staff, and students).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  • Experience in processing visa applications; conducting recruitment and personnel searches.
  • Experience in interpretating policies and procedures
  • Experience managing projects
  • Experience with academic payroll

Working Environment:

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer
  • Use office equipment including a desktop computer
  • Lift up to 25 pounds
